When John and Joe from Freckled Jawn Brewing in Woodbury, New Jersey, contacted Knockout Designs, they were looking for a custom tap handle that would bring their ideas to life behind the bar. As a new brewery opening in a few weeks, they wanted their tap handles to not only identify their beer but to reflect the local touch behind the Freckled Jawn name.
The name itself adds a distinctly local personality to the brand. “Jawn” is a regional expression that can refer to almost anything, and Freckled Jawn Brewing embraces the local spirit in its identity. Knockout Designs wanted the custom tap marker to capture that same sense of personality while creating something functional for their brewery.
John and Joe selected a classic wooden rectangular tap handle, giving the Knockout Designs Team plenty of surface area to display the brewery’s branding. We finished the tap handle in a glossy black, creating a nice backdrop for the bright green Freckled Jawn name which is displayed on three sides.
The top of the custom tap handle became the centerpiece of the design. We 3D printed a plastic Freckled Jawn logo, allowing us to get precise detail and dimension. After printing, we used UV LED paint to give the logo a vibrant color and to create a dimensional element that stands out against the black wooden tap handle.
Functionality was also an important part of the design. We incorporated a custom plastic beer-name slot into the front of the handle, giving the Freckled Jawn team an easy way to identify whichever beer is currently pouring. This allows the same branded tap handle to work across different beers while maintaining a consistent and recognizable presence.
The finished custom tap handle combines wood, 3D-printed plastic, UV LED painting, and practical beer identification slot into one cohesive design. It is a great example of how a tap handle can be so versatile. Knockout Designs wishes Freckled Jawn Brewing a happy grand opening!
