Boris from Sugoi Brewing Company reached out to Knockout Designs to create distinctive, yet minimalist, custom distribution tap handles for his new Asian-inspired craft beer launching across California. With a growing fan base and a name that means “amazing” in Japanese, Boris wanted every detail of his branding to reflect the qualities of his brewery. Our mission was to create custom tap markers that were as strikingly simple as they were memorable—something that would stand out behind the bar but still reflect the authenticity of Sugoi’s craft.
The Knockout Designs team began with sustainably sourced wood that complements the natural aesthetics of the Sugoi Brewing Company brand. The wooden shaft was then laser engraved vertically with the word “SUGOI” in a hand-written style. The name runs down the front marker in a tall, narrow layout, allowing it to remain legible from a distance while fitting neatly on the shaft. Laser engraving allows for intricate designs, logos, and consistent branding across each personalized tap handle. The consistent use of laser engraving ensures both durability and brand cohesion, with a natural contrast that stands out clearly against the rich wood grain. It’s ideal for breweries looking to combine durability with craftsmanship in their branding.
The team then designed an oval-shaped top section featuring Sugoi’s silhouette logo: a capybara, laser engraved with fine detail. The capybara, beloved in Japanese culture, adds personality and approachability, reinforcing the fun and easy-going spirit of Sugoi Brewing Company. Knockout Designs offers a handcrafted touch and unique design sensibility that helps breweries stand out. Collaboration is direct and responsive, ensuring that each tap handle reflects the brand’s story and aesthetic with authenticity. Each custom tap handle is handcrafted and laser engraved on both sides, making them bartender-friendly and highly visible to customers from any angle. These custom tap handles help Sugoi Brewing Company tell its story with every use—clean, confident, and uniquely rooted in craft and culture.
